Bear Wallow Cafe in Alpine

Quaint small town diner with very friendly staff and cozy atmosphere. Fresh pies are amazing. Fruit and pie crusts and very tasty. Makes for a good day trip from Show Low to see beautiful Alpine.

I think this is pretty much you're only choice for food in Alpine. Luckily it is a cute little place with good food and service. They were not however wearing masks.

My family eats here every time we come to town. We have loved the atmosphere and food, however in recent years the service has really gone down as well as the food quality. The last couple times we have gone, our wait to get our food has been incredibly long.

Ever ate pie that made you wanna cry? This place is amazing! We love supporting small town America and this is a great place to stop!We had the chicken fried steak with green beans, Texas toast, mashed potatoes, and a side of vegetable beef stew. And we also tried the Green Chile Burro which is served enchilada style (basically a smothered burrito), came with beans and cheese and served with chips and salsa. To top it all off we had a slice of pumpkin and blueberry pie. We came at the right time because they were still warm out of the oven! Homemade from scratch- we even had them throw on a couple of scoops of vanilla ice cream. We left feeling extremely satisfied! The wait staff were great and friendly too. Don’t forget to tip your servers! Vote with your dollar! Shop local and support small businesses!

Quaint, little cafe when passing through Alpine. Great salsa, and chicken fried steak! Excellent atmosphere as well. Make it a point to stop by.

There is a rule that you can not have your cellphone out...therefore no pictures...lol. The food is always awesome. The waitress was the granddaughter of the original owner( the grandmother apparently didn't like the cellphone thing...lol). The place is warm and perfect for getting good food and getting out of the cold.

Real Homemade PIE! Apple, Strawberry Rhubarb, Mixed Berry, Apricot, Peach... and lots more. Hamburgers are incredible! Breakfast is a must! Good Mexican Food - if you like it hot! Hand cut steaks and hand bread chicken fried... This is the real thing! And it is delicious!!

This has to be my most favorite ❤️ restaurant in the U.S for their pro freedom, pro gun atmosphere. Located in Alpine, Arizona with some of the most scenic drives both up the road and down the road.

This place is so cute! We had to wait a long time for our food but it's because it was super busy, probably because it might be the only breakfast place in town or the best one at least. We met some people that live right by us back in Phoenix and they also knew the people sitting next to them. Small world. The company was good so the wait didn't even matter. The food was yummy and the staff was super nice and friendly. Will definitely recommend and return.

Nice enough for a quick breakfast, waitress was nice and efficient even while her young son ready for the school bus. Cute kid. Food was good for country diner breakfast from a rather limited menu. A little over the top with political signs, flyers, and flags everywhere for Trump. Not a welcoming feeling for liberals if that sort of thing bothers you.

This quaint cafe is perfect in the little town of Alpine. Whether you're just passing through or ran out of food out camping.......... it's a great place to grab a bite.

Service awesome---- Staff awesome-----Food awesome------Clean wich is awesome. President Trump Suppporters awesome...........THE FLYS NOT SO AWESOME.. I had a fly dive bomb my ice cream and pie and i had to dig the fly out of my ice cream with my spoon.....YUUUUK Tons and Tons of flys inside the restaurant. Small town establishments must remember common sense that it is a Restaurant :)

This is the best small town cafe I have had in some time. It was comfy, with great service and the pie is to die for. Made a day trip up to cooler mountain air and stopped in to enjoy a bite to eat. It was a good choice. Will most definitely go again.

Found the breakfast fantastic and the service great. Definitely home style cooking and more importantly a home style feeling. Staff were all great towards me and my wife. This was the place that I enjoyed the most on my Grand Circle tour road trip. Wish I could go there right now for a meal. People should be aware that cell phone usage is not allowed inside. Yet another reason to love this place. Enjoy the meal and company. Use your phone after.

Old and Funky, Great Food, big dishes, and fast and friendly service, loved the knotty pine in the back.

A very friendly hometown Diner. Open for breakfast lunch and dinner. A good selection on the menu for each time you want to eat. Sarah our waitress was absolutely wonderful. I had the open-faced beef roast sandwich and mashed potatoes. Was very good. My wife had a Mexican combo plate. Very large portions so you will get plenty to eat. They also had quite a large assortment of pies. See the attached pictures if you would like.

Lots of old time atmosphere in this cozy diner plus well-prepared comfort food. If you're near Alpine, a must stop.

Showed up right at closing on Thanksgiving Day and they were nice enough to feed us anyway! Not only was the food amazing, but they made it feel like holiday dinner with extended family. Just might make it an annual tradition...but we’ll get there earlier. 😉

She makes her own pies from scratch. They are wonderful. So is the food. Just a down home feeling. No cell phones allowed so you have to talk to each other.

I loved it, the restaurant is very cozy and comforting and the food was amazing. The burger i had was was one of the best burgers i've ever had. Every one there is so friendly and the service was quick. the mexican pizza was very good (as a hispanic person, if i like the mexican food so will you)

Overpriced and slow service.Took 10 minutes to be seated and drinks came quickly. Took 45 minutes for food to arrive and was told after 30 minutes of waiting that "food will be there soon." Waitress did not check in on us before or after that sentence. Drinks were not refilled. Food was lukewarm when received. Conservative propaganda seen throughout. Not worth the time there or the money spent.

Great Food, Great Place, Great Service

Historicall, the Bear Wallow Cafe was the place in Alpine when it came to dining, seeing the locals and hospitality. The food quality has hit rock bottom. I ate there twice in a span of 3 days. Both meals were disappointing. The worst one was huevos rancheros. It amounted to a side of pinto beans with tortilla chips with a weak tasting sauce covered by 2 fried eggs. Not even close to a normal huevos rancheros plate. Don't even think about using a cell phone in the place as it is a police state when you even pick one up to check the weather. The place is for sale. Someone definitely needs to purchase the place and bring it back to its glory days.

Loved the food. Stopped by while we were camping nearby. Nice people. I will definitely be returning to this restaurant again when I am in town.
